FOLLICULAR PUNCTURE

AT THE TIME OF INSEMINATION AS METHOD FOR REMOVING DOUBLE GESTURES IN MILK COWS

Welcome

Hi, I’m Irina Garcia-Ispierto, professor at the University of Lleida. I would like to welcome you to this website, which will upload our group’s activity. We focus primarily on improving fertility in highly-intensified dairy farms with the research and development of new techniques. Furthermore, scientific outreach plays an important role, as we believe that it is essential for research to reach the specialised sector and also the general population.

On this web portal you will find the main research we do, as well as press appearances, specialized journals and others. In addition, you will find links so you can deepen your themes. I invite you to take a look!

Researchers

Irina Garcia-Ispierto (IP)

Irina Garcia-Ispierto is a PhD from the University of Barcelona in 2008. She is currently a contracted professor, in the Department of Animal Science of the University of Lleida and researcher responsible for the Animal Reproduction Group of the Agrotechnio Research Center. Its research line is based on the reproduction of dairy beef. His specialties are double gestures, synchronization methods, reproductive ecography, and fertility problems. He has also focused his study on infectious problems such as the Coxiella burnetti or parasitaries such as Neospora caninum

Currently has more than 100 articles in indexed journals and more than 100 participations in congresses, both national and international. She has participated in symposiums organized by companies such as ECUPHAR or Ceva and has written several articles in magazines.

is a principal researcher of numerous contracts with pharmaceutical companies and dairy cattle farms in the Segrià area, and is a principal researcher of a SGR group of the Generalitat de Catalunya, as well as a demonstration project of the Government of Catalonia. She is currently the editor of the journal Animals, animal reproduction section, and a reviewer of different journals such as Reproduction in Domestic Animals, Theriogenology or Journal of Dairy Science.

What do we do?

The technique consists of the unaspirationless punctuation of the minor follicle on AI day using a candlerigid aspiration of kits(Iberian Minitube S.L., the Campus Forest, Tarragona, Spain).

It is performed in both animals with bilateral follicles and unilaterals with the same effectiveness.

Although fertility is the same statistically as in control cows (those not performing the technique but having 2 AI-hour follicles), ovulatory failures increase significantly.

Currently, it is proposed to treat the animals to which the technique applies a powerful ovulation inducer, such as hCG. Further studies are needed to determine whether, in addition, the simplified technique with the treatment of hCG not only exceeds the fertility of the control group, but decreases gestation losses due to the additional CL and eliminates double gestation. To favor the function of this additional induced CL, a dephereline dose (analog of GnRH) is applied on the 7th day after punction.
